History: Ocean City Baptist Church was formed in 1898 when a pastor and 28 members from an area church recognized the need for a ministry in Ocean City. After moving several times through its early years, it found its permanent home in 1926 on the corner of 10th Street and Wesley Avenue. In this location, Ocean City Baptist has had the opportunity to proclaim Christ to both the residents of southern New Jersey as well as the many tourists who pass through each summer.
One of the ministries that began with visitors in mind was a Summer Bible Conference that featured daily services throughout the summer season. These conferences featured outstanding Bible teachers and musicians. Many times families would plan their vacations to Ocean City based upon who the Bible teacher would be that week.
As the church grew, so did its desire to minister beyond its immediate reach and to see Christ proclaimed around the world. With that goal in mind, in 1955 the church began the Great Commission Fellowship. Through this Fellowship, missionaries have been sent out and ministries have been supported both in this country and around the world.
Ocean City Baptist Church has also had a heart for youth. When Atlantic Christian School outgrew its Ventnor location in 1977, Ocean City Baptist opened its facilities and invited them to use the church buildings as their new school location. It became the home of Atlantic Christian School for the next 18 years until the school had to move to a larger facility that would fit their ever-growing needs.
With sound Bible preaching, an evangelistic emphasis, and a heart for missions, Ocean City Baptist Church has stood as a lighthouse of truth to Southern New Jersey and the whole world. Its purpose is, and will continue to be, to glorify God through faithfully proclaiming His Word.
