Mission:

To provide the materials and services that give all members of the community access to the knowledge, experience, wisdom, and dreams of humanity in order to enrich their lives and to assist them in meeting the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

Some of the roles that public libraries fill include:

- A pre-schooler's door to learning: The library encourages and assists young children to develop an interest in reading and learning. Materials and services for parents are also provided.

- An independent learning center: The library supports individuals of all ages pursuing a program of learning independent of any formal education system.

- A reference and information center: The library desires to be the single source of information on any subject for the entire community

- A research center: The library helps researchers to conduct in-depth study or investigate specific areas of knowledge. From local history buffs to back yard inventors - your library is the key access route to information.

- A source of popular materials: The library features current, high-demand, materials in a variety of formats for persons of all ages. Books, magazines, compact discs, cassettes and videos - the library provides the lastest material.

But the public library is even more. It represents an idea that helps define and defend our democratic way of life. By offering a public forum and free access to a wide spectrum of ideas and philosophies, the library ensures that each citizen has the opportunity to contribute and grow to the best of his or her abilities.
