Our Little Farm
Our Little Farm is once again running a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program for 2011. The members of our CSA will contract with us to produce vegetables for weekly pickup from June through October of 2011.
We will grow the vegetables on our farm only (no sub-contracting here). With the exception of garlic (propagated from cloves which we produced) and potatoes (propagated from seed potatoes which we will buy), all of our vegetables will be grown from seed on our farm. Starting in 2011, the only seed we'll buy will be produced by small farms and seed companies. We will however use up our current stock of seed, to do otherwise would be wasteful. Some of the seed that we plant will be our own seed that we saved from previous crops and we will be saving seed from the 2011 crop as well. Over time we hope to grow with our own seed only, but it'll take several years at least to get there.
On Our Little Farm we use only natural methods. No chemical fertilizers, no herbicides, no pesticides, no fungicides. We do use compost, green manures, wood ash, eggshells, autumn leaves, and other organic matter to build fertility. We manage pests and weeds culturally, mechanically, and manually.
As a member of the Our Little Farm CSA, you will: - Receive 20 weeks of vegetables, grown by us. - Receive a variety of vegetables each week. - Support local agriculture. - Improve food security.
Hi, my name is Larry McAuliffe. My wife, Kate, and I are into the 2nd year of the Our Little Farm CSA program. Our goal for this program is to help others enjoy fresh local food for as many weeks of the year as possible while providing sufficient income to help us to manage on the farm.
Our Little Farm is a diverse subsistence farm on 20 acres in southeast Pennfield Township. Just about 6 of those acres are pasture, another 6 or 8 are wooded, and the rest of the acreage is split up here and there into orchards, access routes, meadows, and gardens. We're applying permaculture tools and principles to improve the resilience of our lives and production here on the farm while reducing our needs and demands on the environment.
