The Oxford Volunteer Fire Department located in the Township of Oxford, Warren County New Jersey is an independent non-profit organization.
Unlike most of the fire companies in the State of New Jersey, the OVFD is not owned or managed by the Municipal government. The OVFD is owned by its membership as a not for profit organization, including but not limited to, all of the land, buildings, apparatus and equipment. The fire department is responsible for all operating costs, insurance and incidental expenses. Funding for operations and capital projects is derived from donations, fund raising efforts and social organizations.
Being independent can make it a lot tougher to keep things together and make ends meet, but we are proud of who we are and to be one of the dwindling number of independent fire departments in this state.
In addition to providing fire protection services to the Township of Oxford, the department also works with Mountain Lake Fire Company (Liberty Twp.) and Good Will Fire Company (Town of Belvidere) to provide fire protective services to White Township.
Membership in the department is open to anyone who is a citizen of the United States, can perform the duties of a firefighter, is at least 18 years old and lives within 2 miles of the department's fire protection area. The department also maintains a Junior Firefighter program that is open to youth between the ages of 14 and 18.
