Approximately 90 business men and women of Ozark Missouri met on Monday October 14th at the Smith Hotel and successfully organized a Chamber of Commerce. Joe Majors, owner of Major Cheese Co. was names president along with Dr. Stanley Roper as vice-president and Herbert Taylor as treasurer.
The first committee formed was membership, headed up by Jack Raum, with committee members Hurley Thornburg, Ford Haguewood, Myron White, Fred Wade, and Howard Melton, wit a membership if 49 members with annual fee of $15.00 for men and 7.50 for women. By October 27th, 1949 the membership had increased to 58 members.
The next committee was the Budget & Finance Committee headed up by John Hedgpeth with committee members Dr. H.O. Wolfe, James Horst, Arthur Gimlin, Herbert Taylor and Stanley Chudomelka.
The publicity committee was chaired by Jack Smith with committee members Mrs. Bertha Mae Pyle, Dr. Stanley Roper and Frank Hannah Sr.
November 14th, 1949 the Ozark Chamber of Commerce met and decide to hire a part time secretary. It was also voted at that time that the local chamber would join the National Chamber of Commerce.
In 1991 the Ozark Chamber of Commerce bought their first office at the corner of 3rd & Church Street Downtown. It was sold in July 2002 and at that time the Chamber relocated to their current location 191 Nth 17th Street under the Water at the Intersection of Hwys 65 & 14.
