Meals on Wheels of Pikeville,Ky. is a non-profit organization dedicated primarily to meeting the nutritional and other special needs of the elderly,disabled, and homebound , in order to help them maintain their independent lifestyle. Many of these  people are able to care for their needs in their own homes if they have some help with nutritious meals.
Meals on Wheels delivers hot, nutritious meals to the elderly,disabled, and homebound in the Pikeville,city area.Meals on Wheels is prepared by the Pikeville Medical Center.The hospital has been preparing food for this program at a nominal cost since Meals on Wheels began in October 1972. The cafeteria receives a list of participants and prepares meals according to specific diets. The food, provided by the cafeteria and delivered within the city limits, costs each recipient $1 a meal and is delivered to their front doors.
The Meals are delivered by volunteers consisting of 6 local churches (Grace Fellowship,Presbyterian,First Baptist,United Methodist,First Christian,and Catholic) and 1 local business(Southeast Telephone)This program depends on volunteers.All of these generous people: deliver meals in their own vehicles and make sure the client is safe and has a little social interaction.The meals-on-wheels program is for anyone who needs it at any time, whether they are temporarily or permanently homebound.
