Pleasant Hill is basically a middle class community with the majority of families having both parents working. Agricultural, manufacturing, service and public sector opportunities translate into local jobs for approximately 2,000, but the area is largely a bedroom community whose many families utilize the district-operated Before and After-School Child Care program or one of the local child care services.
The district operates four campuses and a central office. A Primary School serves pre-Kindergarten through Grade Two, an Elementary School sees Grades three through five, a Middle School meets Grades six through eight and a High School serves freshmen sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
Curriculum follows a systematic approach. The main focus of education at the primary level is to provide students with a strong foundation in basic skills and to instill in young minds the desire to learn.
At the elementary level, students are encouraged to continue building on basic skills and to approach learning with eagerness and anticipation.
In addition to the basics, students at the middle school have the opportunity to explore other subject areas including music, art, family and consumer science and business technology. They also have opportunities to participate in student government and after-school clubs.
