Mission

Portland High School provides an environment that encourages the uniqueness of each individual. All students are challenged to reach their potential and to become self-motivated, life-long learners. The high school collaborates with the community to foster the development of citizens who will be productive in a diverse global society.

Expectations For Student Learning

1. Academic

      The Portland High School student will...

      a. demonstrate growth and proficiency in critical thinking
           and creative problem solving strategies.
      b. become proficient in the use of technology and media to
           obtain, process, and evaluate information in daily life.
      c. effectively communicate through oral, written, visual,
           artistic, and technical modes of expression.

2. Social

     The Portland High School student will...

     a. exhibit an understanding of the value of physical fitness
          and healthy lifestyle choices.
     b. demonstrate responsibility in self discipline, self reliance,
          time management, and personal behavior.
     c. work cooperatively with others, recognize individual
          differences, and respect the rights of others.

3. Civic

     The Portland High School student will...

     a. demonstrate an understanding of the value of leadership
         and service to the school and community.
     b. demonstrate an understanding of cultural and political
          factors necessary for active citizenship.
