When in 1917 Melvin Jones formed the first Lions Club in Chicago, he had the intuitive vision that men and women of good will everywhere had the innate compassion to help all those in need. Over the years this well-spring of desire to serve our neighbors expressed through multitudinous deeds spread throughout the world and became universally recognized. As of today, Lions Clubs have become the largest volunteer service organization in the world with over one million, four hundred thousand members serving in eighty countries.

It is with this same esprit-de-corps that the Ravenswood Lions Club has been faithfully and proudly serving the community of Ravenswood/Astoria ever since we were chartered on February 13, 1958.

For over 50 years we have dedicated our efforts to support the visually impaired, children in need, America's Servicemen and Women, and Senior Citizens and local, charitable organizations.

We have continually supported many local non-profit and non- denominational organizations through donations totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years. Additionally, five seeing-eye dogs have been funded by the Ravenswood Lions Club for the Seeing Eye Dog Foundation.
