History :
Redeemer Lutheran Church had it's humble beginnings on December 2, 1962 and was started as a mission church called the North Las Vegas Lutheran Mission. The first worship service took place at the Moose Hall on East College Avenue in North Las Vegas and there were 58 people in attendance on that first Sunday. Pastor Fry was the first pastor of the church and lead the church for the next 5 years. The first five years of growth was a busy time for us with many firsts, parsonage dedication, first Lenten Services, week-day school was started, and our first secretary was hired.
Our next spiritual leader, Pastor Blau came in February, 1967 and continued Redeemer's growth for the next 8 years. During that time the church grew and flourished with the addition of two worship services and a Christian nursery to care for preschool children of working mothers in our community. Additional property was purchased, pews were installed within the church sanctuary and a new educational wing was built. It was at this time that Redeemer became a self supporting church, no longer relying on the Synod for support. In August of 1975, Pastor Blau accepted a call to a church in Phoenix, Arizona.
In March of 1976, we extended a call to Pastor John Jaster. Pastor Jaster was instrumental in the dream of a secondary Lutheran educational facility and Faith Christian Jr-Sr High School was conceived during this time. In 1981 the church was able to purchase an Allen organ for the sanctuary by selling keys as a fund raiser. It is interesting to note, that also during this time we were able to raise $50,000 to build an educational facility on Redeemer's property for an elementary school. It is amazing what a few can do with our Lord's help. God has richly blessed this church over the years and has guided us through many adverse periods in it's history. In November of 1983, Pastor Jastor tendered his resignation to continue his ministry at Grace Lutheran Church in Los Angeles, Ca.. Redeemer remained without a spiritual leader for just over 2 years during which time we were lead by vacancy pastors and our elders.
In 1985, Pastor Ralph Buchhorn was called to Redeemer and was installed on October 6, 1985. In 1987, teachers were called and we achieved our goal of offering kindergarten through sixth grade classes, breaking ground on our new school facility and dedicating Redeemer Lutheran School. Pastor Buchhorn remained pastor of Redeemer until 1999 when Vicar Rod McPherson became the Shepherd of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Pastor Rod came to us in 2001 and has revived the youth group , brought us back to traditional worship, community outreach and several bible studies. He has made the teaching of the bible real to us and has given a clarity to Gods word and how it applies to our lives. God has truly blessed us with his presence at Redeemer Lutheran Church. We continue to move forward with God's plan for us at Redeemer Lutheran Church.
