In the fall of 1982, the Habersham County Rotary Club initiated efforts to form a Rotary Club in Dahlonega. These efforts became a reality on March 29, 1983 with the charter of the Rotary Club of Dahlonega.
Nine years later, the Rotary Club of Dahlonega saw a similar opportunity in Dawson County. Inspired by the leadership provided them in 1982 by the Habersham County Club and the positive impact of Rotary in their community, the Dahlonega Club began efforts to form a club in Dawson County.
The initial effort involved several meetings with business leaders. After developing and contacting prospective members, a provisional club was formed and began weekly breakfast meetings in March of 1992.
In February 1996 the Rotary Club first held an "Apples for Teachers" day. We had representatives of the club at each public school early enough to greet each teacher as they arrived and present them with an apple and a thank you for the efforts each of them gives to the youth of Dawson County. This “Apples for Teachers” day has continued through the present.
Dawson County is fortunate to have Rotary and its ideals and we, as Rotarians are thankful for the opportunity to puts these ideals into action.
