Samuel Ogle has had many lives as a public school serving the citizens of Prince George's County for now more than four decades. Samuel Ogle first opened its doors in 1966 as a junior high school. After approximately 15 years of service and due to changing student populations, it was shuttered for several years only to re-open in 1986 as a science and math magnet school.
From 1986 to 2002, Samuel Ogle Science, Math and Technology Magnet School excelled as a premier elementary school with an emphasis in the math and sciences for the entire region. In 2004, most magnet schools were converted to elementary schools serving more localized communities with Samuel Ogle serving as a comprehensive elementary school. Beginning with the 2005 school year, Samuel Ogle was once again reborn as a middle school serving students in grades 6 through 8. Whether serving as a junior high, magnet or elementary school, Samuel Ogle continues its 40-year tradition of academic excellence.
