San Elijo Elementary School is a unique school as it existed within another school for two years prior to moving to the new campus. Many outstanding programs are already initiated and working successfully. Relationships between staff, students, and parents are formed and a collaborative culture exists. The San Elijo community values education and supports the efforts of the teaching and administrative staff. A result of these close and effective working relationships is a learning community that appreciates the strengths that cultural diversity brings to a school and one that takes pride in continuous academic and socio-emotional growth.
When the school opens in August, the enrollment is projected at 750 students with a teaching staff of 33. The enthusiastic, positive, and creative staff is dedicated to the success of the new school and its students and looks forward to the myriad of tasks required to open a school. A culture of collaboration, hard work, and joy exists at the school.
Although our school is new, we have accomplished a great deal. The San Elijo community is positive and highly involved. Students are happy, secure, and dedicated to becoming “their best selves.” As the school mascot, the golden eagle, suggests you can SEE us Soar throughout the school day as students and teachers focus on essential language arts standards, foster a love of reading with Accelerated Reader, integrate technology into most content standards, and recognize math achievement with our Soaring Through Math program. Students develop an awareness of positive character traits with a school wide monthly focus on traits such as determination, honesty, and kindness. An emphasis on respect and hard work is readily apparent to all visitors. Our students continue to make steady progress on district summative assessments while our initial STAR/API figure is 845. An established process for continued growth ensures that staff, parents, and students will always strive to improve. This positive commitment of the entire learning community will result in the San Elijo Elementary Golden Eagles’ success in the years to come.
