The San Leandro Church of Christ is a group of Christians who are committed to worshiping God, reaching our community with the message of Jesus Christ and growing toward spiritual maturity by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are people who love God, do our best to follow him and who cherish the relationship that we have with God because of Jesus' saving actions on our behalf.
We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, and because of this we look to it for guidance in both the activities of church life and in our personal actions. We consider it the responsibility of each Christian to study the scriptures, develop spiritual commitments and convictions and to share those beliefs with others as we live and work together as God's people.
We are a church that has a passion for prayer. We believe that God has placed his Spirit in every Christian, and that as we seek him, the Holy Spirit will lead and guide us in the direction that he wants us to go, will continually change us to be more like Jesus and will equip and empower us to accomplish all that he has for us to do. We seek God in prayer because we want to be following his plans rather than our own.
The San Leandro Church is a diverse congregation that believes strongly in unity. Our members come from a variety of racial and cultural backgrounds, ages, family groups and economic situations. While we agree on the central matters of faith, we also enjoy the freedom to differ on other spiritual issues. Each person holds their beliefs strongly and for good reason, but we do not demand that everyone else believe exactly as we do. We are united in our love and concern for one another and in our commitment to the essential principles of Christianity.
We believe that God loves each and every individual and as his highest expression of that love, he sent his son Jesus to die on our behalf. He did this so that each person might be able to enjoy the personal relationship with God which has been broken by our sin. Those who wish to join our fellowship must trust in the sacrifice of Jesus for their forgiveness and salvation, demonstrate this faith in baptism and make an ongoing personal commitment to grow in their relationship with the Lord.
We think of our church as a spiritual family. If you look at us closely, you will see that we are a collection of imperfect people with all kinds of problems and struggles. The nice thing about that is, when we turn to God, he accepts us where we are and then begins to work in our hearts and lives. Because this is God's way, we also try to be a helping, nurturing, and healing community where people can find support and experience a sense of belonging.
If you would like more information about this church or the God we worship, please feel free to visit any of our services, speak to any of our members, write us a note or call the church staff during the week. May God bless you as you seek him.
