At the beginning of this period of growth al of the school work was done in one building, now known as the Central School, the high school and eighth grade being on the second floor and the others on the first floor. During the past four years two new modern buildings have been erected and put into use. The first of these was a primary school built on the North Side to relieve the crowded conditions in the original school home and also to obviate the necessity of having the little children cross the Union Pacific tracks. Within the past two years the new high school building, located one block west of the court house, has been completed and occupied by a greatly relieved and highly pleased body of high school teachers and students. This building is constructed of native stone of purest quality, the masonry being especially good. It is a massive and imposing building, the stateliness of which makes a strong impression on all who see it. It is the last word in modern high school buildings and embodies almost every known convenience for high school work, being equipped with a well appointed business department, large and well arranged laboratories for the successful prosecution of the work in the sciences, manual training quarters and two domestic science rooms. The gymnasium with five shower baths and a splendid swimming pool in conjunction is without a doubt one of the very best in the western half of the state. In fact, we do not know of another high school building west of Lincoln that will compare favorably with it.
