About Us
Silva Valley Year Round Elementary School is a K-5 school nestled in the rolling, oak studded hills of El Dorado County. Silva Valley is part of the Buckeye Union School District. Silva Valley opened in 1992 with 450 students. Today we have just over 700 students.
Students, parents, and staff all hold high expectations for one another, and all students are expected to learn and be successful. Our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing and challenging educational environment in which students are eager learners, realize their full potential, exhibit positive self esteem, and are successful, productive citizens now, and in the future.
Special programs at Silva Valley include the School Improvement Program (SIP), before and after school enrichment programs for Gifted and Talented students (GATE), Cross Age Reading Program, and after school enrichment programs. Our students are encouraged to become involved and practice responsible habits through participating in hands-on activities such as the Student Council. Our strong reputation is reflected by the many students from other districts who choose to attend our school.
The PTA is an important contributor to the school. Through two fund raisers, the PTA has generated enough funds to provide the school with resources that greatly add to the school program.
Silva Valley YRE School is setting the standard for excellence. All staff have high expectations and hold themselves accountable. There is a joy of learning for staff and students. We all are working together to provide a high quality educational program for students.
Silva Valley has been at the forefront of integrated thematic teaching based on brain research about how students learn most effectively. Curriculum improvement is an on-going process.
Silva Valley teachers are active on the district curriculum committees for every curricular area. These committees have developed district curriculum standards and assessments using teacher input and following state standards. Core objectives were developed which specifically outline what will be taught at each grade level. Assessments and report cards are directly tied to these core objectives. The district developed an Assessment and Accountability Plan using standards and district developed assessments that have been models for other districts.
