About Us:
South Berkeley Baptist Church in Inwood, WV is a Southern Baptist church that prides itself on being family friendly, open to everyone, and Bible-based. We are conveniently located on Route 11 across from Musselman High School.

Our vision is to provide a place where people of all races, creeds, and color of skin can gather to worship God; free from any governmental or higher ecclesiastical influence. While the local church as a place for spiritual uplifting experiences and a place where non-Christians can be led to convert to Christianity is our primary focus, our vision goes out to the whole world. We support missionaries and missions insofar as we are financially able with our primary mission focus through the Southern Baptist mission agencies world-wide. We also have a vision for reproducing new churches by supporting such endeavors by the Tri-County Baptist Association, the West Virginia Convention of Southern Baptists, and the North American Mission Board. We have a vision for independent mission activity and support such to the limit we can afford. The vision for South Berkeley Baptist Church includes providing a place for fellowship within the church family and to permit our church building to be looked upon as a community resource for meetings, receptions, dinners, etc. apart and distinct from a worship setting.

History:
In the early 1980’s a group of Christians from Hedgesville Baptist Church joined with others in what is now Tri-County Baptist Association and, with the help of the West Virginia Convention of Southern Baptists, did a survey of the Berkeley County area looking for possible sites to organize new church starts. Several sites were identified, among which was Inwood, which was ultimately selected for a new church start.

In 1985, a core group of people from the Inwood/Gerrardstown/Bunker Hill environs began meeting in the upstairs hall of the Inwood Fire Department. After several months of meeting at the fire station, three acres of property was located at the intersection of U.S. Route 11 and Hardy Drive (now Mineral Drive). The property was purchased and a building program was launched.

After a lot of hard work by lots of volunteers and contractors, the church building was finished and South Berkeley Baptist Church moved into its permanent quarters in what is phase one of a three-phase plan for the property. Regular worship services had hardly gotten started when the baptistery heater overheated and began a fire that burned much of the baptistery and pulpit area of the church. Not to be defeated, the members of South Berkeley Baptist quickly went to work, rebuilt the burned area, and kept on with church services of Sunday School and worship.

In 1997, the church voted to build a fellowship hall and additional education space. Seven years later after a long wait for the county sewer to reach them, and delays caused by one thing or another, the fellowship hall was completed and has become a favorite place for wedding receptions, fellowship dinners, and as a place to just gather and talk with Christian friends.
