St. Luke School, a Catholic institution located in the Diocese of Camden, is committed to education that is rooted in the spiritual, intellectual, physical, and social development of each student in a Catholic-Christian environment. We believe that the ultimate goal of education is to bring to fruition a system of values and attitudes, which makes each student aware of God's presence in his/her life. This spiritual growth will, in turn, help to develop a growing, loving, vital Christian community that will serve the needs of that community and mankind in general. The faculty views knowledge as a lifetime process of learning, best learned through hands-on experiences.

The faculty views intellectual development as a process of presenting information in a logical sequence. Emphasis is placed on basic skills in the primary grades. In the higher elementary grades, problem solving and critical thinking skills are stressed. We recognize that children learn in a variety of ways; therefore, multi-sensory presentations, updated teaching methods, modern textbooks and audio-visual aids are used to instruct our students. The basic curriculum is combined with a strong emphasis on class participation, homework, and good study habits in an environment, which is conductive to learning.

Students are encouraged to participate in school, church and community activities enabling them to interact with those of a different cultural, religious or ethnic background.

Students are taught to respect authority systems by obeying school rules and all authority figures who exemplify Christian values.

We provide for the physical development of the students through regularly scheduled physical education classes and an inter-parochial sports program. Periods for outside recess are also provided. Respect and reverence for one's own body, as well as others, is also taught.

The school provides daily religion classes, monthly liturgical celebrations, communal penance services, prayer services, and celebrations of special holidays.

Values are formed with the cooperation of parents and are reinforced in school. Christian values are modeled by the faculty as an example to the students.

The relationship between teacher and student is one based on mutual respect. The teacher is a role model for the students in living his/her Christian values. Through understanding, friendship, and discipline, the teacher encourages each student to achieve his/her potential.

We recognize parents as the foremost educators of their children and join with them as partners in the education of their children.

Parents are kept informed of their children's progress through progress reports, report cards, test papers, and conferences. They are informed of and invited to participate in school activities through newsletters and weekly communication envelopes.

Policy is developed jointly by the principal and the pastor in accordance with diocesan policies. The principal communicates these policies to the faculty and assists them in carrying them out.

The curriculum policy is determined by the Diocese of Camden and is updated periodically by specific curriculum guidelines. The needs of the St. Luke Catholic School students are additionally met through curriculum coordinators in each subject area.

Students are evaluated by the classroom teacher through observation of the student's performance. Both formal and informal evaluations are made through the use of anecdotal observations, portfolio assessments, prepared book tests, teacher-made tests, and standardized achievements tests.

Teachers are evaluated by the principal through formal classroom observations as well as informal visits to the classroom.

Teachers also evaluate their methods through their students' progress and self-evaluation.
