About
St. Paul Church was founded in 1892 by a group of individuals who wanted to bring their Lutheran understanding of Christianity to their home community. Today, as a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, we value our Lutheran heritage even as we enter the new millennium.
We believe that we are saved by the grace of God through faith, not by works that we do, and that faith is a gift from God. As sinners forgiven by a loving God, we are a new people, not haunted by guilt of past sins. We trust in God who comes to us in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
Members of St Paul come from diverse geographical, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. Some reside in the East End neighborhood near the church while others make their homes in more distant communities in the greater Charleston area.
