The Stephentown Historical Society was formed in 1973 to bring together those interested in studying the history of the area. Since then, the members have been gathering artifacts and documents to be preserved, displayed, and studied.A major step toward creating a museum for these purposes was reached in 1988 when the society purchased the Methodist Episcopal Church which for years had stood empty and unused at the corner of Garfield and Staples Roads. Renamed the Stephentown Heritage Center, this 1870 structure is now the repository for our collections, and is a place for teaching, meetings, workshops, lectures, exhibits, and programs for schoolchildren
