The Highlands, once known as the Traditions Course when it opened and among Golf Digest’s list of best courses in1997, was designed by Kurt Sandness, president of SKAMP Golf Design, North Carolina and Minnesota. The mission was “to create an aesthetically appealing, playable and strategically challenging golf course amidst the beauty of Mother Nature”.
Under the new ownership of Philip Zettler the course was closed to undergo a tremendous revitalization. In the spring of 2004 the course was re-opened. The well-bunkered lush, finely manicured greens and rolling fairways testify to the TLC that takes place on a daily basis.
A Par 72 Course, it plays 6,906 yards from back tees perfectly woven through the hills of Alabama. The Course layout has over 200 feet in elevation. With additional tees Highlands now has five ranges of difficulty –ladies, seniors, executive, member, and championship—a championship golf course that caters to anyone who plays. The 18 th hole now finishes where the expanse of StillWaters Clubhouse overlooks a breath-taking view of Alabama woodlands with rolling hills in the vista.
