Our Vision :

Our History :
Located in southwestern Brazoria County on the Texas Gulf Coast, the Sweeny Hospital District was established by the Texas Legislature in 1963 after a 10-year community effort. The district's tax funds, along with individual and corporate donations, paid for a new facility, which opened its doors March 29, 1965 as Sweeny Community Hospital (SCH).
Originally, the hospital was L-shaped and had 22 beds. A second wing opened in 1966, featuring an obstetrics department and enough additional beds to bring the total to 50. A physician clinic with five offices was added before the 1975 addition of an ICU, conference room, operating suite and emergency department.
In 2002, voters approved a $10 million bond issue to pay for a new, larger emergency department, hospital renovations, a new medical office building and a 27-unit assisted living community to be known as "The Fountains." The facility opened in 2005.
Currently licensed for 20 beds, Sweeny Community Hospital has a total of approximately 130 employees at locations in Sweeny, Brazoria and West Columbia.
SCH is a member of the Texas Hospital Association, the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals, and is a regional affiliate of the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston, a not-for-profit organization.
