The Tatum Public Library opened in 1975 with enthusiastic support from library supporters. In 1978, the library moved from Tatum City Hall into a larger building. Later, the Friends of the Rusk County Library purchased land for the construction of a new building, and in 1990 the building campaign gained momentum with a $50,000 Meadows Foundation grant. Tatum area residents launched a widespread campaign to raise matching funds and exceeded their campaign goal of $50,000 and raised $110,000 in one year.
The new library building was opened on March 29, 1993 at the new location of 335 Hood Street in Tatum. The Tatum Library is located in a supportive community and has a very active Volunteer group.
