Tehachapi Community Congregational is a warm, diverse and welcoming church. With a membership of about 90 adults, the congregation tends to be close-knit, with each member knowing nearly all the others, but it’s also well known for being a friendly group, freely welcoming newcomers. Theologically, the congregation is consistent with the United Church of Christ, with which it has been affiliated since 1958. There are no constraints, for example, on who may take communion; it’s left to the conscience of each worshipper.
Established in 1921, the main church building - our sanctuary - was built in 1928. Thus, during this year of 2006, we are celebrating our 78th year of continuous use of the sanctuary. It was illustrated in a 1996 painting by Helen McAllister, reproduced above and used with permission. With only modest changes over the years, our sanctuary is quaint and homey.
