The Bayonne Bridgemen was a drum corps dedicated to innovation, excellence and putting the entertainment of their audience above all other priorities. During their twenty year history, the corps had a strong record of competitive accomplishments, however the real legacy of the Bridgemen is the profound effect they had in breaking new ground and spear-heading a new direction in drum corps. While one may view videos of the Bridgemen from '76 and '77 and perceive them as being a bit campy visually, these first steps at adding theatricality, dance and costuming in drum corps opened the door for a wave of innovations that came after. When viewed, the 1980 Bridgemen show, more than any other corps that year, provided a roadmap for the rest of the activity to follow over the next ten years. The Bridgemen legacy is one of continually being willing to push the boundaries and defy convention.
