For 78 years the Bruce United Methodist Church as been at the heart of our community. Unfortunately in the absence of early church records, little information is known about our church's early years. However, what is known is that our church had its beginning in a pioneer congregation organized more than 160 years ago with the first house of worship being a log cabin built in the 1840's. It stood on a farm purchased by Joseph Ray, in 1850, and served the congregation till about 1875.

The earliest recorded Pastor who served the church was D. H. Crowson from 1926-1927. In 1928, within a year of the incorporation of the town of Bruce, Parishioners quickly built a new small wooden frame structure within its village. As early as 1948 certain leaders of the church began to toy with idea of building a new church. With the coming in 1950 of a new pastor, E. Allen Bailey, Jr., new spiritual impetus was given to the church. In March 1952, that idea became reality with the contributions of active members of the church, donations from members of other churches, the E. Bruce Co. and other sources; ground was broken on the church that now stands. In August 1952, construction was finished on the current building and completed with equipment at a cost of $65,000.
