In 1995, Dan Whisner was traveling full-time, representing Ohio Legislative Watch. Through an unusual set of circumstances, God began to burden his heart for his home community and, in the fall of ‘95, he and his wife, Ronda, opened their home for the first service of a baby church. Dan and Ronda met at a Bible college in Florida in 1971 (he was a freshman in college, and she just a sophomore in high school). They were married in 1974 and began a joyful journey of ministering together. From the very beginning of their lives, God began to uniquely prepare them for the church ministry they are now involved in ~ They each were raised in preachers’ homes by wonderful, Godly parents where they experienced first-hand the joys and heavy responsibilities of serving a church family. Dan’s father pastored in Ohio and Ronda’s father pastored in Alabama (so she brings much southern hospitality to their ministry). They have found great joy in God leading them to follow in their parents’ footsteps and letting them serve their own church family. For fifteen years, Pastor Dan and his family traveled across the nation, speaking in churches and special conferences on the family and government (Dan served as Editor for the Christian Law Association in Cleveland then in 1985, moved to Mount Vernon to serve as President of the Ohio Legislative Watch, an organization on behalf of churches to the Ohio Legislature). While traveling, they presented many concerts as a family and produced five music recordings. Now, instead of traveling the nation in concert, each family member is using their gifts in the music ministry of their local church ~ directing the choirs, singing, playing keyboards, saxophone and trumpet. Their sons are carrying on the heritage of their grandfathers and father, with both of them following God’s call on their lives to serve in the ministry. What great delight they have in serving as a Family Ministry Team, with each member deeply involved in the Church at Chapel Hill ministries.
