Founded in 1891 by William Penn, today it is a beautiful and flourishing community rooted in tradition and culture. Our growing community is currently comprised of 10,422 residents. The median income is $74,351 and the median household assessed value is $200,000 (www.census.gov). Not only is our population growing, but our parks system has expanded as well. There are currently 4 parks (~92 acres) and over 8 trails (~8.5 miles) for residents to enjoy during their leisure time. The township consists of a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial zones. The major employers located in the Township are Wissahickon School District, Gwynedd Mercy College, Ortho-McNeil, and Rohm & Haas. The Township has a strong Public/Private relationship as seen in its unique formulation of an Industrial Compact.

The Lower Gwynedd Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for the appearance and maintenance of the Townships parks. The organization and scheduling of Township programs is just one of the many tasks on the agenda for those involved with this department of the Township.
