Lionism arrived and was chartered in Mount Carmel on May 1, 1944. The 38 member club was organized in the Pennsylvania Hotel at Fifth and Market Streets by Lions Special Representative E.G. Moyer of Pottsville.  The Kulpmont Lions Club was the sponsoring club.  The election of the first officers was held in the Marble Hall Hotel with dignitaries from both the Pottsville and Kulpmont Lions Clubs assisting.  Mike Bodnar was elected as our first Lion President.
