The Putnam Chorale begins its winter 2008 season.

 

 

 

The Putnam Chorale will kick off it's winter season with an open house summer sing along of Mozart's Requiem.  The event will be on Saturday August 23, 2008 at 7:30 pm at the FirstUnitedMethodistChurch on

 

 

 

 

Also, The Putnam Chorale is pleased to announce its winter 2008 program, A Celebration of Henry Purcell.  Rehearsals commence on September 8th at 7:15 pm at Guideposts on Seminary Hill in Carmel, and are open to new members of all skill levels with no auditions required.

 

 

 

During its winter season, the Chorale will perform two works by the master of Baroque style, Henry Purcell, "Ode on St. Cecilia's Day" and "Come, ye sons of Art, Away." Under the direction of Douglas Anderson, a live orchestra and professional soloists will accompany The Chorale. This season's main performances are scheduled for December 6 in Brewster and December 7th in Cold Spring. 

 

 

 

In addition to new performing members, the Chorale seeks non-singing members to assist in staging, Web hosting, photography, recording, and other non-musical needs.  Seasonal dues and fees cost between $80 to $100 and include 5 tickets, which members can use or sell.

 

 

 

The mission of The Putnam Chorale, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, is to provide the community with the experience of enjoying well performed classical and popular choral music, either in a concert environment or through outreach such as nursing homes, libraries, or community events and to provide an opportunity for area residents to learn the techniques of choral singing and attain the skill and discipline of concert performance. 

 

 

 

The Putnam Chorale was founded in 1984 by Bernard LaDue, a music educator and teacher at FoxLaneHigh School in Bedford, NY.  The current Director, Dr. Douglas Anderson, is a conductor, composer, educator and producer who has been active in the NY music scene for over 30 years.  He holds a Doctorate in music composition from ColumbiaUniversity, and is currently on the faculty of CUNY/Burough of Manhattan, where he is a professor of music and former Chairman of the Music and ArtDepartment.

 

 

 

The Chorale also welcomes donations, contributions and sponsorships from those wishing to help us promote our mission in PutnamCounty. More information can be found on the Chorale's Web site, www.putnamchorale.org.
