Mission:
The people of the Tri-Community Coalition, Berkley, Huntington Woods, and Oak Park, work together to prevent substance abuse through education and effective programming to promote a healthy community.
The Coalition grew out of a five-part recommendation of a 44-member task force to the Berkley School District Board of Education in December 1995. One of the five parts addressed the fact that "community involvement" is a critical component in any prevention proposal that a school district would adopt. To that end, the Berkley School District and a local church convened a meeting of approximately 80 key community leaders from across the three cities, and the "coalition" concept was adopted in spring of 1996.
