About Us: One of two educational districts that serve our town, Tulare City School District is nestled in the middle of the Central San Joaquin Valley of California between Fresno and Bakersfield.
Tulare has been growing rapidly for the past few years, recently our district added Mission Valley Elementary School bringing our total school count up to 10 elementary and 4 middle schools. In addition to our growth, the Tulare Joint Union High School District has recently added Mission Oak High School to bring the city's total of high schools to 3. Both districts have already made provisions for at least one more school to be built per district in the next 2-4 years.
Our teachers remain as one of the highest paid staffs in the state and all are committed to making the educational experience the best it can be! We currently have over 400 classroom teachers and are growing each year dispite deficits in the state budget. Our district provides for the educational needs of approximately 9,500 students from Kindergarden through 8th grade. And, as both our town and district grow, there will be many opportunites for employment of highly qualified teachers in the near future. Those teachers would join a staff in a stable, educationally progressive and caring environment.
The Tulare City School District is committed to providing the very best in staff development opportunities for all teachers. We believe that student success relates directly to teacher expertise and knowledge. We strive to provide opportunities for teachers to interact with and learn from each other. Inservice days are incorporated into our yearly calendars in order to learn from content experts and grade level peers. Innovative teaching practices are encouraged. Staff development workshops are offered continuously throughout the school year. Materials are made readily available to teachers who have participated in a learning activity so that new strategies can be implemented immediately.
Our district has developed grade level expectancies which are based on the California State Frameworks, assessment tools, and other benchmark documents. Ongoing support is available to teachers in order to assist them in implementing these into their classroom instruction. Mentor teachers work closely with all staff members.
The vision of the Tulare City School District is to provide an optimum learning environment where all students can achieve to their highest potential. We believe that we have the best teachers who receive the best in staff development in order to achieve that goal.
