The Uniontown Lions Club was chartered on October 25, 1944 with eighteen members. During the past fifty-five years the Club has participated in most of the major programs endorsed by Lions International; especially the prevention and reversal of blindness. We are participating in the Greater Akron Lions Eyecare Program (G.A.L.E.P.) at Summa Health Systems (Akron City Hospital) Ophthalmology Center. We have also been supportive of Lions programs at the state, district and zone levels.

Throughout our history we have also contributed a great deal of time and money to local community projects and other charities. In the early years of the club, a major share of income was raised by sponsoring a community festival. From 1958 until 1972, our major source of income came from the Lions Follies. In 1995 we returned to our roots, sponsoring the Uniontown Lions Festival.

In addition to the Festival, we have several other fundraising events throughout the year, including a reverse raffle. Every dollar of proceeds raised by our fundraising events go to charities and projects that we support - club expenses are entirely paid for by members. In June 1972, when a motion was made to purchase 16 acres of land for $10,000, our Club's budget was about $1,500 a year. The land was to be paid for over a ten year period. In September 1972 we started running bingo games, which allowed us to pay for the land in just one year. In December 1976, $110,000 was borrowed to construct a park building. Our Club pledged $16,700 per year for the life of the loan. In April 1989, thirteen years later, the final payment was made.
