UnSmoke Systems, a project of Braddock Redux, is housed in a repurposed Catholic school building. The auditorium has been refashioned into a gallery/events venue, with the classrooms converted into artist studio spaces.
Inspired by the industrial character and the historical importance of Braddock, the project seeks to further open the community to those with unconventional and forward-thinking notions about the reuse of urban space. In a town where dilapidation and neglect have scarred the landscape, UnSmoke Systems contends that Braddock is fertile ground for creativity.
The gallery and events venue is open for flexible programming for all types of special events. Currently, UnSmoke provides studio space for several artists in residence.
Braddock Redux strives to revitalize Braddock through two main avenues:
From within the community by empowering area youth to make positive changes within themselves and in their community, by preserving remaining structures, and by providing community space to bring Braddock residents together.
From outside the community by attracting interest, ideas, and energies, and through the provision of live-work space to motivate outside artistic and performing talent to sample and relocate to Braddock.
