Our school community is looking forward to an exciting and rewarding year. West Bertie serves a diverse population of 410 students. We are surrounded by the beauty of nature in the town of Lewiston-Woodville, not far from the coast and a short trip from the mountains of North Carolina.

Our program goals include providing a safe and caring school environment in which students learn and thrive. We are a Reading First School which promotes scientifically based reading practices. This initiative strives to ensure that all students are reading by the end of the program.

West Bertie teachers participate in a learning community. We meet frequently for collaboration, to share success stories, review best practices, and to learn from each other. Our staff has great expectations for all students; and, parents are more than willing to enrich our instructional program in a variety of ways. Different teaching strategies are used to target varied learning styles as we prepare students for the challenges of becoming productive and contributing citizens.
