Welcome to the 2005-2006 school year. As we embark on this new school year, we look to continue the many successful programs and initiatives that have made West Gates a wonderful place to learn and grow. Our goal at West Gates Avenue Elementary School is to provide a nurturing and safe environment in an inclusionary setting to enable the success of all students. It is our commitment to provide programs that enrich and support all types of learners so that they can thrive and be successful. West Gates Avenue School seeks to promote positive self-image and an attitude of respect for others.

West Gates Avenue Elementary was the first school in the Lindenhurst School District to provide an inclusion program. This underscores our commitment to offer an instructional environment for the success of all. The Principal and teachers work collaboratively to provide solid educational programs and services for all West Gates Avenue students.

Our PTA provides many outstanding programs throughout the year for the students of West Gates. One of the programs we are best known for is Parents as Reading Partners (P.A.R.P). There is a gala opening assembly to kick off the P.A.R.P. program and to prepare students and parents for a fun month of reading activities. The faculty members participate in a variety of ways to encourage reading and the Principal, Mrs. Omeis, always fulfills her “Principal’s Challenge” each year.

This year, The West Gates Avenue Site-Based Team will continue to develop character education programs. Last year a slogan contest was held and the winning slogan was “Think about it fully, don’t be a bully”. Each child was provided a t-shirt free of charge. Students and faculty proudly wear their shirts on designated “School Spirit Days”.

This past summer, many projects were completed in and around the school, creating a brighter and improved environment to learn and grow. We look forward to challenges that lie ahead and together will work to help each child reach his or her potential.
