The history of Wheeling Park District begins in 1960 when the citizens of Wheeling, Illinois, voted to form an agency to serve the recreational needs of their growing community.

Wheeling Park District has come a long way since that day in December. At that time, the Park District had no land, no facilities, and no programs -- just a vision for what could be. Now, over 40 years later, the award-winning Wheeling Park District owns and maintains 270 acres of community parks, playgrounds, and facilities, providing athletic and recreational services and educational opportunities to more than 500,000 annual Park District guests every year.
