White River Buddhist Temple

3625 Auburn Way North
253-833-1442

History:

During the early 20th century, the Jodo Shinshu Buddhist faith spread to the historic White River valley area through the Japanese pioneers who farmed in this valley.  White River Buddhist Temple was founded in 1912 by these pioneers.

Over our 100+ years the temple has seen many changes.  We have had three different locations and celebrate the 50th anniversary of our present building in 2014.  The Sangha (congregation) has changed over time as well.  Today we are an inclusive, diverse community of many cultures who wish to become a portal to surrounding communities and share the Dharma with everyone interested.
