Whortlekill Rod & Gun Club is situated on approximately 82 acres in the heart of Hopewell Jct. N.Y., just off of Route 376 north of town. It was started many years ago by a group of railroad men and prison guards from the local prison. The club was founded in 1935 as a not for profit organization designed to promote fishing and hunting. Not long after it's founding, the group purchased the property off of Rte 376 and called it home. Since about 1938, the club's main fund raiser was from the gravel found on the property and of course minimal dues monies. It is an extremely active club and meets every month on the first Thursday at 7:00pm in the club house or pole barn, depending on the weather. The board of Directors meet the Monday prior to that meeting at 7:00pm.
