The Wickliffe Division Of Fire is a full service fire department providing for the safety and well-being of 14,559 residents and countless employees, visitors and travelers who pass through our City each day. Situated in Northeast Ohio, just 12 miles east of downtown Cleveland, the City of Wickliffe is a suburban community with an extraordinary quality of life and a friendly, small town atmosphere. A healthy blend of residential, manufacturing and retail areas provide for a diverse economy and solid positioning for the next century. Interstate 90, Interstate 271 and state freeway Route 2 all intersect in Wickliffe making international air and shipping facilities only minutes away. One of the busiest rail corridors in the region, running dozens of trains daily, carries a wide variety of cargo shipments to the east coast. Lake Erie can be seen from the gently rolling ridge that runs west to east through the City.
The fire department operates one fire station located strategically at two major cross streets and served by a railroad underpass. From this location we provide a wide range of services, including fire prevention, safety education, fire suppression, rescue, ALS level emergency medical transport and hazardous materials response to a service area of 4.68 square miles. During 2004, our personnel responded to 1,977 emergency incidents with an exceptional average response time of just 3.25 minutes.
Established in 1921, our fire department now utilizes a blend of 20 full-time career personnel and 15 to 20 part-time paid firefighters. We operate two pumpers, an aerial ladder and two transport ambulances, along with a variety of support vehicles. One of Lake County's two hazardous materials response units is also housed in our station. Our department is dispatched by the Wickliffe Emergency Communications Center and utilizes the county-wide 800mhz digital radio system. We are active members of both the Lake County and Northeast Ohio Regional MABAS mutual aid systems.
