Wire Village School  was named to honor the wire industry which was a very important part of Spencer's history in the 19th and 20th centuries. The school is the third school to bear the name of Wire Village School. The first two were in District 4 and were elementary schools built in 1847 and 1897 on Gold Nugget Road, halfway between the Lower Wire Village and the Upper Wire Village neighborhoods.
