Centenary College will hold its annual Crowd the Rail event at 3 p.m. May 2, 2015 at the Junior Essex Troop’s Garden State Horse Show at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.  This event is sponsored by Weatherbeeta.

The Crowd the Rail event benefits the Equestrian Center Enhancement Project.  It is a gathering of Centenary alumni, family and friends for the purpose of fundraising for the facility driven needs of Centenary College’s Equestrian Center, which is located in Long Valley, N.J.  Cost of each ticket is $50 and $40 for alumni.  Participants will not only be able to watch the Grand Prix, but there will be a live simulcast of the Kentucky Derby available. 

Timothy Cleary, Associate Professor of Equine Studies and Chair of the Equine Department, is also a member of the Junior Essex Troop and manages the Garden State Horse Show annually.  Kelly Martin Munz, Centenary’s Professor of Equine Studies and Major Gifts Officer for Equine Projects, spearheads Centenary’s Crowd the Rail.

“Attendees will have the opportunity to watch the premier Jumper Class from the best seats, see our horses and mingle with faculty,” says Kelly Martin Munz, Professor of Equine Studies and the Major Gifts Officer for Equine Projects at Centenary College.  “The Garden State Horse Show is a wonderful opportunity to bring people together who have a passion for this industry. As a rule, everyone has an exceptional time.”

Since 1984, Centenary has awarded associate of science and bachelor of science degrees in Equine Studies. It is the only four-year institution in New Jersey that grants such degrees, allowing students with a love of horses to transform their interests and talents into solid career opportunities.

Today, the College’s Equine Studies graduates are highly sought after as industry professionals, including competitive riding coaches, trainers, instructors, breeders, therapeutic riding and dressage specialists, barn managers, veterinarians and communications specialists.

About the Garden State Horse Show

The Garden State Horse Show, presented by the Junior Essex Troop, is New Jersey’s premier horse show held annually in May at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta.

Started in 1951 by the Junior Essex Troop, this AA-Rated five day horse show is home to the $40,000 Garden State Grand Prix.  The show offers classes for all levels of Equitation, Hunters, and Jumpers, with Hunter Classics, Hunter Derbies, and Jumper Derbies, including the AA Garden State Jr/AO Hunter Classic and the USHJA National and International Garden State Hunter Derbies.  Prior to the Garden State Horse Show, which is held from April 29 through May 3, the Preview Show is held on April 25 and 26.  It offers four rings of competition including multiple Hunter Classics and Wildcard Classes for the John H. Fritz Challenge and the Junior Essex Troop Jumper Derby.
