Being a trauma surgeon provides daily challenges; one never knows who or what is coming through the door next. Since nearly every patient she sees is probably going through the worst day of their life, she finds her role as their surgeon instantly gratifying. She is rewarded by being able to make a meaningful impact on their lives.
Since 2001, Dr. Capella has joined numerous deployments with federal disaster response teams, including Hurricane Rita (2005), Haiti (2010) and Hurricane Maria (2017). She has also provided humanitarian aid in Zambia and Honduras. Currently, she serves on the Trauma and Critical Care Team (East), based in Boston.
