First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.

Location: Meet in parking lot off on Anderson Ranch Parkway, off Hwy between the City of Clearlake and Lower Lake.

Parking: Free parking for those attending the event.

What to Expect: Hike to the end of the Dawa Qanoq’ana trail (formerly McVicar) through Anderson Marsh to the shore of Clear Lake across from Indian Island and back, a distance of about 7½ miles of mainly level terrain, with the first about .3 miles being accessible.  

Length of Hike: 7.5 mile, 3 hours

Preparation: Sturdy shoes, a hat, water and a snack are recommended.

Special Instructions: Heavy rain will cancel hike.

Ages: Children must be accompanied by an adult.
