YOUTH PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

**Eatonville Boys & Girls Club**

A dozen enthusiastic youths from the Eatonville Boys & Girls Club recently visited us for a day of art and inspiration. The event, led by Mariah Romans of Black Shell Studio, began with an engaging introduction to Gordon Parks and his Daytona Beach photo essay. The group enjoyed a lively discussion on photography’s role in self-expression and empowerment, followed by a hands-on workshop covering photography fundamentals. Participants had a wonderful time capturing moments both inside our museum and in our sculpture garden with Polaroid cameras.

**Winter Park Housing Authority**

We also welcomed participants from the Winter Park Housing Authority, guided by local photographers Mariah Romans and Kierra Branker, founders of Black Shell Studio. The day included a tour of our Gordon Parks exhibition, a thought-provoking discussion on the power of photography, and a practical workshop on the essentials of photo composition and storytelling. The session ended with the participants capturing their own images, exploring both our indoor spaces and the sculpture garden.

A special thank you to Mark J Sindler for his generous support of these invaluable youth programs. Free art education is crucial for empowering and inspiring the next generation within our community.

Around the Museum.

We are proud to have Taonga Kaunda, our curatorial intern, assisting with the conservation of our sculptures. At the Albin Polasek Museum, we take great care in preserving these masterpieces. Albin Polasek considered his sculptures to be his children, and we continue to honor his legacy with meticulous attention to their care and preservation.

Saving Emily

We need your help to save Emily at the Polasek Museum! Albin Polasek’s touching sculpture of his wife, Emily, playing a water harp, stands as a testament to their enduring love and his artistic resilience despite physical challenges. Over time, Emily has weathered, and now she urgently needs restoration to preserve her beauty and music for future generations.

Your donation today will directly support Emily’s careful conservation, including the removal of hard water deposits and the application of a protective coating. Together, we can safeguard this symbol of love and artistry.

Here’s how you can contribute:

1. Donate online: to make a secure donation.

2. Send or bring your donation to the museum: Your support in person is greatly appreciated.

3. Share the word: Spread awareness and help us reach more supporters who can preserve Emily’s legacy at the Polasek Museum. Every share counts!

Let’s ensure Emily continues to enchant visitors for generations to come. Thank you for your generosity and support!
