The Library has worked hard to develop partnerships with wonderful individuals and organizations. It is these partnerships that allow us to achieve the #1 status.
First and foremost is our partnership with the City of Winter Park. If they did not provide us with a generous operating budget; if they did not provide and take care of this building; if they did not support our initiatives in so many ways, we would not be able to provide the residents with the current levels of collections and services that we do.
Our Youth Services Department does a fantastic job of instilling a lifelong love of reading in the children of Winter Park. The Reference Department remains on the cutting edge of integrating technology into their work and being recognized for their work in state and national publications. The Lifelong Learning Institute, while still adjusting to priorities imposed by its primary funder, is well on its way to being recognized as one of the major services for adult continuing education in Central Florida.
The future holds many challenges for us. First and foremost is securing a site and funding for an expanded Library. Historically, this Library has expanded about every 15 years since its founding in 1885. If you visit other cities with newer libraries around the country you will find that while this library provides great services and collections, the space is terribly overcrowded lending to a cramped and dark atmosphere.
