History of Dodge City Days:
Dodge City Days this year will celebrate 48 years.
Prior to that date there were 2 Community celebrations: The Boot Hill Fiesta (May) Dodge City Roundup - Mid Summer
It was in 1960 that community leaders decided to combine the two and call it Dodge City Days. Looking back through old files, we find the celebration was a three day event. Rodeo tickets cost $.75 to $1.50.It has now evolved into a 10 day celebration that is well known nationwide. The Dodge City Chamber is the overall sponsor and coordinator of Dodge City Days. Its original intent was to celebrate Dodge City's great Western heritage, and it still accomplishes that today!
The Committees work year round to continue striving to make it bigger each year. The theme this year is “Dodge City Days....Enjoy the Ride!”. Approximately 100,000 individuals attend at least one Dodge City Days event. The celebration generates approximately three million dollars, which has an economic impact of approximately nine million dollars on Dodge City.
